Top 10 Tech Industry Trends to Watch in 2024 

My name is Aaron Bareno, and I am currently a Grade 11 student as I write this. I’ve been honoured to work alongside the amazing TechPlace team these past few months as part of my Cooperative Education program at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School, through the Business Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program. TechPlace lives up to their name – it is truly where the best in tech connects. I was surrounded by passionate entrepreneurs, who offered amazing advice to help shape my future career path. My passion for graphic design and event planning was supported by numerous individuals, and the fruits of my work reflected that. In my short time at TechPlace, I designed numerous posters, ordered countless coffee pods, and spent days figuring out how to export hundreds of contacts from one website to an excel spreadsheet (I figured it out, thankfully), among other daily tasks. 

My biggest achievement during my time here at TechPlace? Planning and executing PathFinder, an event aimed at helping high school students with networking tips and career planning advice. Combining the issue of bridging the gap between classrooms and professional work environments with my passion for helping students, PathFinder came to life. On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, teachers, students, and TechPlace members all joined together for an evening of personal and professional development. It was an enriching experience for everyone, and I truly learned the arduous process it takes to plan an event. 

Thank you to both TechPlace and my school’s co-op program for the chance to make meaningful connections with inspiring individuals. The invaluable advice that I have received during my time here is something I will be truly grateful for as I pursue post-secondary education in the future.  

My advice for future co-op students? Two things – one is to take the co-op program, and two is to be curious and ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask, whether it be clarification or advice. Take advantage of your time here, and just know that the connections you make now will last a lifetime. 

Gaining Real-World Skills: Aaron's Co-op  Story at TechPlace

Acceleration+, a program funded by the Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and delivered in partnership with Global Startups Accelerator, Innovation Factory and TechPlace was awarded the prestigious 2024 Visionary Award yesterday at Global Startups’ annual conference, Navigating Tomorrow: The Trailblazers of New-Age Tech.

This honour was created by Global Startups Accelerator to recognize organizations that promote inclusion and diversity in the tech community, demonstrate a unique vision for enhancing the tech ecosystem, and facilitate entry and support for businesses originating from emerging markets to establish themselves in Canada. 

Acceleration+ was a commercialization program developed for international companies looking to expand into the North American markets. This recognition highlights the collaborative effort of these partner organizations and the significant impact of the Acceleration+ program – supporting over 40 international businesses to establish in Canada. The program provided each of the international companies with a dedicated advisory board, along with more than 200 hours of training on sales, marketing, investor readiness, and HR across three cohorts, over two years.

Global Startups’ annual conference, Navigating Tomorrow: The Trailblazers of New-Age Tech featured presentations from five influential speakers representing diverse sectors of the tech industry, alongside a networking session. The event also showcased a dynamic pitch competition and concluded with an awards ceremony.

Innovation Factory and TechPlace’s collaborative program wins Global Startups’ 2024 Visionary Award

Hamilton and Burlington Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Hamilton and Burlington Economic Development, set to host half-day summit focusing on progress, innovation, and growth

Hamilton, ON – The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and Burlington Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Hamilton Economic Development and Burlington Economic Development, are excited to announce details for the 2024 Bay Area Economic Summit, presented by RBC Royal Bank.

The half-day summit, set for Thursday, June 25th at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, will feature a keynote address, in addition to two engaging panels. The panels will focus on developing tomorrow’s workforce as well as leveraging climate innovation to spur the region’s economic competitiveness. Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath and Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward will conclude the programming with a fireside chat. The keynote speaker will be announced next week.
